General Discussion / Lockdown 2
« on: November 05, 2020, 01:31:15 PM »
Hi all,

This will come as no suprise, but for the duration of Lockdown 2, the EBW will not be available for our games nights.

It is the intention of the committee to recommence on a similar basis to October once this lockdown passes, so hopefully we can get back to rolling dice in a few weeks time.

We will keep you posted.

General Discussion / Update from the committee - reopening
« on: September 24, 2020, 07:54:51 AM »
All,

We have completed our risk assessment process and subject to any further changes in government guidance, we feel that we are able to open the club in a Covid-19 secure way.

Our initial hope was to open on 2nd October, but changes in guidance from Boris's speech on Tuesday have yet to be passed to community centres and therefore the intention now is to hold the first club night back on 16th October with a further club night on 30th October.  Should anything come from government between now and then that impacts on our current assessment, then we will need to review - but as it stands, we should be good to go.

These two sessions will allow us to trial the risk assessment we have in place and the sessions will be subject to restrictions around attendance (details of which will be posted shortly).

We will form an opinion around dates for November nearer the time - as in recent days, things have changed quite quickly - and what the rules are come November is anyone's guess.

I will post up the risk assessment that we have completed and allow members to contribute their opinion and see what changes we are proposing.  We will essentially have 4 tables per evening available for booking and details of the booking system we are proposing will be released shortly too.  The main aim of the booking system is to achieve fairness to members.

Each table will be subject to the current 'rule of 6' and masks/visors will also be required on site.

Neil (on behalf of the committee)

General Discussion / Facebook painting comps
« on: March 23, 2020, 02:40:14 PM »
Hi guys,

Just incase you haven't seen - i'm doing a few painting comps on the facebook page for a bit of fun whilst we are all shut in our houses.

The entries for week 1 (Leader - any single leader model from any game system) will be open for posting on facebook on Friday.

I will also be announcing week 2 this Wednesday so you then have 10 days to paint a model if you wish.

Engagement on these threads will be appreciated - but hopefully also a bit of fun to lighten the mood :)

Tabletop Games / The AOS thread - tale of x gamers

Creating a new thread to talk AOS  :)

I'm thinking of gloomspite gitz but with 40k nids, the thought of a horde army just fills me with dread lol.  I struggle with the undead asthetic tbh so have sort of ruled them out.

the orcs look interesting though

Events, Tournaments and Campaigns / AOS scale up campaign
« on: February 03, 2020, 12:58:00 PM »
I've been looking to get to AoS for some time and have struggled.  I am now going to do it following a really enjoyable game the other day.

I will therefore be running an AOS series of games over the next few months with the aim of building to 1,500 point games.  Similar to a campaign/escalation league but without the admin  :)

This is an unofficial thing i'm doing - so apologies if it treads on ian and ben's work they do around events.  This isn't meant to be a formal event - just a way of getting folk into AOS.

I am looking at doing this over 5 months - with one Friday a month being designated to AOS.  This leaves time to play other games too - though clearly, no reason why couldn't play more AOS... but this mini event is designed to bring people along.  The idea being if we started in March, then in July the event concludes.

I will collate names of who is interested.  Your monthly opponents will be drawn from a hat to keep it random.  I will try and fix the date ie last Friday/first Friday etc so to help those who do shifts etc.

Month 1

Build and assemble a 500 point AOS army.  I believe if you were starting from scratch, this is probably about a £60 starter set (race dependent).

In month 1, you will bring your assembled AOS army and play 2 x 500 point games in one evening.

Game 1 will run from 19.30-20.45 and Game 2 from 20.50-22.05.

Month 2

Month 2 requires the player to bring their 500 point army (but the expectation is this is now painted).

In month 2 we will play a multiplayer game 2 vs 2.  Depending on the game length, 2 games could be played in this evening.

Players may have added to their collections since month 1, but for the purpose of the campaign, we are sticking with 500 point armies.

Month 3

By month 3 we will have played three games and have got the core rules down.  By month 3 we will also have had another month to buy and add to our army.

Therefore, month 3 will comprise of 2 x 800 point games.

First game 19.30-21.00 and game 2 21.00-22.30 (can start earlier)

Month 4

We're 5 games in and no doubt other games have been played and our armies developed a bit beyond 800 points.  We probably now have collections around 1500 points (assuming we max characters etc).  We probably have some core units but also some big toys.

Month 4 will comprise a 1,250 point game (though you could agree a further value with your opponent if both are happy)

Expectation is that both armies are painted.

Month 5

We approach the end of the campaign.  Month 5 will comprise a 1,500 point game with your fully painted AOS army.

Again, if your opponent is happy, feel free to play a higher points value.

All games will be scenario driven and include rules for mystical terrain etc.  No pitched battles here!!!

This campaign (its not really a campaign, but I'm calling it one) is designed for those genuinely interested in collecting and playing AOS.

It may be you have an army bought already but sitting in a box, so you could use this campaign as a way of getting models built and painted etc.

If you're interested, post below.

I'm thinking we could do the first event some time in March.
